Up in the Air: Rob & Morgan’s Experienced Operators Course on the Spider Boom Lift

Pre-use checks, safety measures, and mastering the Hinowa Lightlift 20.10

TL;DR:

  • Rob and Morgan completed their experienced operators course
  • Training carried out on the Hinowa Lightlift 20.10 Spider Boom Lift
  • Focus on pre-use checks and practical safety measures
  • Wind speed checks demonstrated at various heights
  • Confidence built for safe, efficient working at height

When it comes to working at height, safety and confidence go hand in hand. Recently, Rob and Morgan of Wight Contractors joined us on-site for their Experienced Operators Course using the Hinowa Lightlift 20.10 Spider Boom Lift — a versatile and compact access platform designed for challenging environments.

Before climbing into the basket, both operators carried out essential pre-use checks, ensuring the equipment was safe and ready for work. These inspections are the first line of defence against accidents, giving operators the assurance that everything is functioning as it should.

As part of their training, Rob and Morgan also measured wind speeds at different heights. With access platforms, weather conditions can make all the difference. By monitoring wind speeds, they gained a clear understanding of safe working limits — a vital skill for anyone operating at height, especially on exposed sites.

The Hinowa Lightlift 20.10 itself proved an excellent training platform. Compact enough to fit through narrow access points yet powerful enough to reach 20 metres vertically and 10 metres horizontally, it’s a machine that requires skill and respect. Its spider-leg stabilisers make it ideal for uneven ground, but correct set-up is critical, which is why practical exercises are such an important part of training.

“Experienced operators benefit from a refresher on both theory and hands-on exercises. Even those who’ve been using platforms for years often pick up new tips and a renewed appreciation for safety,” says Tim Benton.

By the end of the course, Rob and Morgan were ready for their assessment — confident, competent, and equipped with the knowledge to carry out their work safely and efficiently.

At Wight Training Services, we make sure every operator has the skills and confidence to work safely at height. Whether you need training on a spider boom lift, cherry picker, or scissor lift, our courses are tailored to your workplace and your equipment.
