Scissor Lift Refresher Training at Vestas – Keeping Safety at New Heights

Eddie and Paul refresh their scissor lift skills with practical, on-site MEWP training from Wight Training Services.

TL;DR

  • Eddie and Paul from Vestas refreshed their Scissor Lift (MEWP) operator skills.
  • Training took place on-site using a Genie GS-2632 scissor lift.
  • Real warehouse conditions helped reinforce safe operating techniques.
  • Refresher training helps experienced operators maintain confidence and safety awareness.
  • Wight Training Services provides practical, on-site MEWP training across the Isle of Wight.

It's always good to get out on-site and work with experienced operators, and this time I was with Eddie and Paul from Vestas, refreshing their Scissor Lift (MEWP) training.

The training took place in their warehouse, using a Genie GS-2632 self-propelled scissor lift, giving us the opportunity to reinforce safe working practices in the environment where the equipment is actually used.

Supporting a Global Leader in Renewable Energy

For anyone unfamiliar with Vestas, they're a global leader in sustainable energy solutions, designing, manufacturing, installing and servicing wind turbines around the world.

It's great to be supporting a business that's playing such an important role in renewable energy, while helping its operators maintain the skills needed to work safely.

You can find out more about Vestas on their official website.

Real Training in a Real Working Environment

One of the biggest advantages of on-site training is being able to work with the equipment and conditions operators encounter every day.

At Vestas, that meant working around tall warehouse racking, restricted spaces, stored materials and other potential hazards.

Throughout the refresher, we focused on important areas including pre-use inspections, safe positioning, awareness of overhead obstructions, machine stability and emergency procedures.

Operating a scissor lift safely isn't just about knowing how to raise and lower the platform. It's about understanding the risks around you and making the right decisions before and during the job.

Why Refresher Training Matters

Even experienced operators benefit from revisiting their skills from time to time.

It's easy for small habits to creep in, particularly when using equipment regularly. Refresher training provides an opportunity to reinforce good techniques, review safety procedures and make sure operators remain confident and competent.

There isn't a universal legal expiry date for scissor lift training certificates, but employers have a responsibility to ensure their operators are adequately trained and competent.

Regularly reviewing training needs is an important part of maintaining workplace safety.

The Benefits of On-Site Scissor Lift Training

At Wight Training Services, I deliver training at customers' premises, using their own equipment wherever suitable.

This means operators receive practical training that's relevant to their workplace, while businesses benefit from less disruption, reduced travel costs and training tailored to their needs.

Whether it's a novice operator learning the basics or an experienced operator completing a safety refresher, the aim is always the same – safe, confident and competent operation.

Thanks, Eddie and Paul!

A big thank you to Eddie and Paul at Vestas for their efforts throughout the training.

It's always a pleasure working with experienced operators who appreciate the importance of keeping their skills up to date.

Keep up the good work, both!
