Ben, Josh, Gary and James take their scissor lift novice course to new heights in February

TL;DR:

  • Four delegates completed their Scissor Lift Novice course on 9th–10th February.
  • Training delivered on-site at Unique Seaflex.
  • Focus on safe operation, stability, inspections and emergency procedures.
  • Real workplace environment = practical, relevant learning.
  • Another step towards safer offshore and subsea operations.

On the 9th and 10th of February, I had the pleasure of delivering a Scissor Lift Novice course for Ben, Josh, Gary and James at Unique Seaflex. Two days, plenty of practical work, and just the right amount of height involved.

There’s always something satisfying about running training inside a company that genuinely understands engineering, precision and safety — and Unique Seaflex are exactly that.

A Specialist Environment

Unique Seaflex are specialists in underwater air lift bags used for marine salvage, pipeline buoyancy, cable laying and offshore projects around the world. They also provide water-filled load test weights — critical equipment in subsea and offshore operations where precision and reliability matter.

They operate as part of the wider Unique Group, a global organisation with a presence across the UK, US, Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific. From their beginnings in the UAE in 1993 to becoming a global offshore and subsea solutions provider, their growth reflects serious engineering capability and a strong safety culture.

When you’re working in industries involving lifting, buoyancy systems, diving support and offshore engineering, there’s no room for guesswork — and that applies just as much to working at height.

Why Scissor Lift Training Matters

A scissor lift might look straightforward, but safe operation requires proper training and awareness. Over the two days we covered:

  • Pre-use inspections and fault reporting
  • Safe positioning and ground assessment
  • Understanding load limits and stability
  • Emergency lowering procedures
  • Working safely at height around racking and stored materials

Training was delivered on-site, using their own equipment, in their own warehouse environment. That means the scenarios were real. The obstacles were real. The layout was real.

That’s where proper learning happens.

As I always say, “The best training is training that reflects your actual workplace.”

From Ground Level to Confident Operators

By the end of the course, all four delegates were operating confidently, carrying out checks properly, and demonstrating good awareness of their surroundings — especially important when working in busy storage areas with valuable and specialist equipment.

Working at height inside a facility that supports offshore and subsea projects worldwide carries responsibility. The team approached it professionally, asked good questions, and got properly stuck into the practical elements.

It was a productive couple of days and great to see the commitment to maintaining high safety standards.

Well done to Ben, Josh, Gary and James — safely elevated and fully qualified. 👏
