Fresh Skills for a Fresh Produce Team: DJ Hunts Brush Up on Their Counterbalance Forklift Training
Even experienced operators benefit from a refresher – and a few laughs along the way.
TL;DR:
- DJ Hunts completed an Experienced B1 Counterbalance Forklift course.
- Ian, Will and Alfie refreshed their existing skills and knowledge.
- Refresher training helps maintain safe, efficient workplace practices.
- Great feedback from the team with three 5-star Google reviews.
- Another fantastic local Isle of Wight business investing in safety.
When you've been supplying the Isle of Wight with fresh fruit and vegetables for more than 60 years, you soon learn that experience is invaluable. The same applies to operating a forklift truck.
It was a pleasure welcoming Ian, Will and Alfie from DJ Hunts onto one of our Experienced B1 Counterbalance Forklift courses, giving them the opportunity to brush up on existing skills, refresh safe operating techniques and ensure they're continuing to work confidently and efficiently in their busy warehouse.
As the Island's longest-running fruit and vegetable wholesaler, DJ Hunts has built an outstanding reputation since Derek Hunt founded the business back in 1964. Today, under Ian's leadership, the family business continues to supply fresh produce to hotels, restaurants, pubs, caterers, shops and homes across the Isle of Wight.
Their purpose-built warehouse and refrigeration facilities help keep thousands of pounds of fresh produce in perfect condition before it heads out across the Island.
With forklifts playing such an important role in moving pallets of fresh stock quickly and safely, keeping operators' training up to date is essential. Experienced operator courses aren't about starting from scratch—they're about reinforcing good habits, refreshing knowledge and making sure operators remain confident with current best practice.

A big thank you also goes to the team for leaving some fantastic Google reviews after the course.
Will kindly wrote:
"Perfect experience thank you."
Ian and Alfie also took the time to leave 5-star ratings, which are hugely appreciated.
Will even shared a photo from the day. As I replied at the time:
"I promise that's my 'concentrating' face, not me wondering where the biscuits have gone!"
Although... judging by that expression, I still maintain someone had hidden the biscuit tin just before the photo was taken! 🍪
It's always enjoyable working with local businesses like DJ Hunts, and it's great to see companies with such a proud heritage continuing to invest in their people. Safe operators, efficient workplaces and fresh produce arriving where it needs to be—everyone wins.
Thanks again to Ian, Will and Alfie. I look forward to seeing you all again when it's time for the next refresher.
