Festival Ready: Harry Renews His J3 Telehandler Certificate for the Busy Season

Tim Benton • June 25, 2026

With the Isle of Wight Festival just around the corner, staying qualified and safety-conscious is all part of the job.

TL;DR:

  • Harry Spencer has successfully renewed his J3 Telehandler certificate.
  • Training took place ahead of the Isle of Wight Festival (18–21 June 2026).
  • The course was completed using a Merlo Panoramic P38.12 telehandler.
  • Thanks to RJ Russell Developments for kindly providing the machine.
  • Refresher training helps experienced operators stay safe, compliant and confident.

As the Isle of Wight Festival (18–21 June 2026) approaches, many businesses are preparing for one of the busiest weekends of the year. Whether it's setting up stages, moving materials or supporting site operations, telehandlers play a vital role behind the scenes.

Congratulations to Harry Spencer, who has successfully completed his J3 Telehandler refresher training, ensuring he's ready for another busy festival season.

This training was carried out using a Merlo Panoramic P38.12 telehandler, kindly loaned by RJ Russell Developments. I'd like to thank them for their continued support in making practical, real-world training possible.

Refresher training isn't simply about renewing a certificate—it's an opportunity to revisit safe working practices and ensure operators remain confident and competent on today's busy worksites.

During a J3 Telehandler refresher course, experienced operators review essential skills including:

  • Carrying out thorough daily inspections before use.
  • Understanding the machine's capabilities and limitations.
  • Reading and applying load charts correctly.
  • Maintaining stability while lifting and travelling.
  • Operating safely on uneven or rough terrain.
  • Working around pedestrians and other site traffic.
  • Keeping up to date with current health and safety guidance.

As I always say:

"Experience is invaluable, but regular refresher training helps keep good habits fresh and reminds operators that safety should never become routine."

With large-scale events like the Isle of Wight Festival placing extra demands on plant operators, ensuring qualifications remain current gives employers confidence that work will be carried out safely and efficiently.

Well done, Harry, and best of luck for a safe and successful festival season.
