Building Skills That Reach New Heights: Scissor Lift Training with D N Associates Ltd

Tim Benton • June 23, 2026

Keeping experienced construction professionals safe, compliant, and confident when working at height across the Isle of Wight.

TL;DR:

  • D N Associates Ltd recently completed on-site scissor lift training.
  • Practical training took place using a hired electric scissor lift in a real working environment.
  • Refresher training helps maintain safe working practices and legal compliance.
  • On-site courses minimise disruption while maximising relevance.
  • Wight Training Services delivers accredited and in-house MEWP training across the Isle of Wight.

There's no substitute for hands-on experience when it comes to working safely at height, and that's exactly what the team at D N Associates Ltd demonstrated during their recent scissor lift training.

Using an electric scissor lift hired locally from JMC Hire, the team spent the day putting theory into practice, covering the safe operation of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) in a realistic workplace setting.

The machine in the photographs appears to be a Snorkel S3219E electric scissor lift, a compact indoor and outdoor platform that's ideal for maintenance work, warehouse operations and construction projects where a stable, vertical working platform is needed.

One of the biggest advantages of delivering training on-site is that delegates learn in an environment they're already familiar with. Rather than working in an artificial setting, operators are trained around the same types of obstacles, ground conditions and working practices they'll encounter every day. That makes the learning more relevant and helps build confidence from the outset.

As with all MEWP training, the course focused on much more than simply raising and lowering the platform. Delegates covered pre-use inspections, identifying hazards, safe positioning, emergency lowering procedures, operator responsibilities and the importance of maintaining stability throughout the task.

As I always tell delegates:

"The machine is only part of the job. Good planning, proper inspections and understanding your surroundings are what keep everyone safe."

It was a pleasure working with D N Associates Ltd, a well-established Isle of Wight building and civil engineering company that has been delivering projects since 1999. Their commitment to investing in staff training reflects the professional standards they've built their reputation on over the years.

The company undertakes a wide variety of construction, civil engineering and design-and-build projects across the Isle of Wight and the South Coast. By regularly updating the skills and qualifications of their workforce, they continue to demonstrate that safety remains a priority alongside quality workmanship.

Whether it's experienced operators completing refresher training or new users learning the fundamentals, regular instruction helps ensure equipment is used correctly, efficiently and safely.

Working at height will always carry risks, but with the right training, those risks can be effectively managed.

If your business uses scissor lifts, boom lifts, cherry pickers or other Mobile Elevating Work Platforms, making sure your operators receive the correct training isn't just about meeting legal responsibilities—it's about protecting your workforce and keeping projects running smoothly.

Whether you need accredited or in-house working at height training, Wight Training Services delivers practical, on-site courses tailored to your business. From scissor lifts and cherry pickers to a wide range of workplace equipment, training is carried out using your own site and machinery wherever possible, making it relevant, cost-effective and convenient.
