Dan and Ian from BW Mooring Services Ltd recently undertook a 360° Excavator refresher course with Wight Training Services at their Shalfleet base, ahead of an upcoming project involving pier maintenance and sea defence work at Yarmouth Harbour.

The training was delivered on-site using the company’s own Kubota KX080-4α tracked excavator—a powerful and efficient machine ideal for precision work in marine and construction environments. With an operating mass of over 8 tonnes and a 46.5 kW engine, the KX080-4α offers smooth control and robust digging capabilities, making it perfectly suited for harbour repair tasks such as piling, fendering, and shoreline reinforcement.

The refresher course ensures that even experienced operators stay compliant with current health and safety regulations while reinforcing best practice in machine control, risk assessment, and working in challenging environments—essential for BW Moorings' marine infrastructure work.

Based in Shalfleet, BW Mooring Services Ltd has built a solid reputation for specialist marine construction around the Isle of Wight. Their work includes projects for Yarmouth Harbour, Freshwater Parish Council, and other local bodies, with recent contracts covering timber fender repairs, swim buoy layouts, and shoreline protection works.

At Wight Training Services, all courses are tailored to the client’s workplace and machinery, allowing operators to train in familiar surroundings using the very equipment they’ll be working with—boosting confidence, safety, and on-the-job efficiency.
